My living room has been in limbo for over a year now, and it’s time to get it done! I will be doing a lot of firsts with this renovation. Starting with joining The One Room Challenge, for the first time. If you have not heard of The One Room Challenge, or the ORC for short, it is hosted twice a year in the spring and fall. There are featured designers chosen by the ORC and they have 8 weeks to makeover a room of their choice, while documenting it all. They also allow guest participants, like me, to join as well. It is a great way to network and cheer each other on through the process. On Wednesdays, over the next 8 weeks, I will publish a blog on the progress of my living room. If you would like to follow along during the week you can always find me in stories, here. Where I walk you through the process of everything I am doing. You will, also see, all the “what not to dos,” too.
Now, lets talk about the plan. Full disclosure, I have started on the fireplace wall, already. I added faux shiplap to one side, and built my first cabinet, ever, on the other. I’m pretty excited about the cabinet, it has been a goal of mine for a long time. There are plenty of things left to do on this wall, though. I plan on adding faux shiplap above the cabinet, and adding floating shelves, with a light above. For the countertop, on the cabinet, I will be doing a faux soapstone technique, that I can not wait to attempt. I am thinking of trying it on the hearth, too, but I have not made up my mind, yet. A beam will be added to the left of the cabinet. It will run from the floor to the ceiling and across the span of the living room.
Moving on to the exterior wall, it will have Faux Shiplap. The front door will be painted and new hardware will be installed. The window and door will have trim added and I will be painting the window black. If time permits, I really want to diy, custom shades for the windows. So, lets keep our fingers crossed for that one.
The back wall will, most likely, take up most of the 8 weeks, as I build a huge built in. I plan on building two cabinets and drawers in the middle, for the base. Shelves will be above, to display beautiful decor that has been put away for far too long. I really want to add arches to the top, but have not made a decision, as of yet.
In between, I have some furniture flips planned and small diys to bring the entire living room together. I am so excited to share the entire process with you. I hope you follow along and I will need your comments and encouragement along the way. LETS DO THIS!!!
